Who better to go to then The Chilli Pepper Company when you want to sample some of the best hot sauces out there? With the Chilli Pepper Company you can be sure that you are in good hands, especially when trying hot sauces such as The Beast, Naga Mama or the aptly named Be Damned.

The Chilli Pepper Company started off by selling chilli seeds and quickly progressed to making chilli sauces that are now very famous. It was even able to achieve a world record by producing the Naga Viper chilli pepper which was used to make, you’ve guessed it, the Naga Viper Hot Sauce.

The most famous hot sauce from The Chilli Pepper Company has to be 10 Minute Burn though as it is one of the hottest chilli sauces on the market to this day and has also been banned from no less than 3 chilli festivals as people started having “episodes” after trying it out. We have to admit that we were looking a bit worse for wear also when we tried it at the West Dean Chilli Festival in 2010.

The Chilli Pepper Company took advantage of this publicity by creating an even more insane chilli sauce called 15 Minute Burn which could also be called “3 hours running around like a headless chicken trying to extinguish the smoke coming out of one’s ears” but I guess that might be a bit too long to put on the label...

The Chilli Pepper Company is well known for its crazy concoctions, especially 10 minute burn hot sauce which has been banned from no less than three chilli shows since its creation. We tried it at the West Dean Chilli Fiesta this year and it was quite insane!

But Ged from the Chilli Pepper Company thought it would be good to make something even hotter using the same recipe but more chilli extract and give it the name of 15 minute burn “Pocket Rocket”!

Poured into a 30 ml bottle with tamper proof lid, this devilish liquid is to be used as a food additive only. The flavour is amazing though. From personal experience, you get about 5 heavenly seconds of incredibly fruity flavour of Bhut Jolokia before the chilli extract hits. And boy does it not mess about!

We love being able to carry around without having to worry it’s going to spill everywhere and it’s a great chilli produce to show to your friends and family. 15 minute burn “Pocket Rocket” is a limited edition just for Christmas though so get yourself a bottle before stock runs out!

The Chilli Pepper Company 10 Minute Burn Hot Sauce

You might wonder why we would dedicate a whole blog to just one hot sauce. Well the answer is simple: The Chilli Pepper Company 10 Minute Burn Hot Sauce is just awesome!!

Banned from three chilli shows since its creation and a massive hit at the West Dean Chilli Fiesta this year, 10 Minute Burn hot sauce is famous because of the “episodes” it brings on. When trying it at some chilli shows, a handful of people apparently rolled in the grass laughing uncontrollably, others had to sit down for half an hour to recover and some (like me) had their ears ringing for a good 10 minutes (which proves it’s worth its title!). Darth Naga had the same symptoms than the boss of the Devil’s Garden: the tears, the sweat and definitely the hiccups!!

What is great about this hot sauce though is that you get a good 5-6 seconds of intense fruity flavour, kind of like a boiled sweet really, taking over your whole mouth before getting hit by the pepper extract. It is a high worth experiencing but we definitely recommend sitting down first and lining your stomach with milk if you are definitely set on trying it as your insides will definitely go on a hell of a roller-coaster!

Jokes aside though, this is for hardcore chilli lovers and should only really be used as a food additive rather than a “let’s have a bit of fun” kind of hot sauce! We are quickly running out of stock already it’s that popular. Ged, the man behind the sauce is cooking us a new batch but in the meantime make sure to get your hands on a bottle before it’s all sold out!

The Chilli Pepper Company at the Holker Winter Market

At the Devil’s Garden, we are always keen to show our support to our various suppliers and thought it would be nice to say hello to Gerald, the man behind the Chilli Pepper Company, at the Holker Winter Market last weekend.

The weather was absolutely fantastic albeit a bit cold but it meant a lot of people went indoors, where Gerald’s stand was, in order to warm up. It was a rather compact winter market but full of Christmas anticipation and spirit. Gerald had set up shop in a prominent position and a lot of people were interested in what he had to sell.

He asked us to try some of his infamous Naga Viper, currently the hottest chilli in the world. We’re not going to pretend we ate a whole chilli pod, especially on a near empty stomach, and thought we would give you a more accurate description if we weren’t writhing on the floor calling for our mummy to come and make it all better.

Ged gave us a 5mm piece to try and we were bowled over by the flavour right away. It is definitely more Trinidad Scorpion in taste than Naga but the pungency is definitely coming from the latter! We weren’t keeling over but definitely realised why it had won its title!

Other goodies included a delicious dark chilli chocolate, some ginger & chilli fudge and of course his notorious Flaming Fireballs! As for the sauces and preserves, well most of them sold out, especially after all the chilli festivals this summer but fret not as Ged promised he would cook us more of everything, including his famous 10 minute burn hot sauce and the new Naga Viper hot sauce as soon as possible!
