Sweet Treats - Chilli Chocolate

Need of a little pick me up? We've got the answer here at the Devil's Garden! If you are a devoted sweet tooth or simply in need of something that will get your spirits up in a jiffy then go for what most of us would give an arm and a leg for: chilli chocolate.

Wether you are a purist and want to go straight to the intense dark kind then you should definitely go for Dartmoor Chilli Farm, Grim Reaper Food or the Chilli Pepper Company's own versions as they are all insane in terms of quality and have a level of spice tailored to anybody's needs.

But if milk chocolate is your naughty weapon of choice then just wait until you have tried “Hell Raiser” from Grim Reaper Foods that has a hint of orange essence or any of the flavoured dark chocolates from Dartmoor such as coffee, orange, mint, almond, apricot, ginger pieces or fruit & nut!

But if after having eaten a whole bar in one gulp you feel rather guilty then we also have the answer to that: get a bag of Hot Headz' Satan's Spawns Gummi Bears! These have been visited by the mighty habanero so they are definitely corrupted and out there to get you! They will first make you think that they are perfectly safe and should be eaten by the crate load but you will soon  rediscover the almighty mix of pleasure and pain that so many of you chilli heads are after!

REVIEW - Hot Headz Chilli Chips

We had heard on the grapevine that Hot Headz was soon to release some own-brand chilli crisps which got us all hot and bothered. We eagerly awaited the arrival of these chilli crisps and soon discovered it was definitely well worth the wait.

From the moment the postman landed the package on our hands it felt as if this was going to be something really special. The first thing that hit us when we opened the box was the size of the chilli crisps’ packets. With 142g these packets are big enough to pass around at dinner parties or at the office but trust us you’ll soon want to hide them from view although the packaging will make that very difficult.

Indeed, with a striking glossy appearance you can tell that Hot Headz spent a lot of time and effort presenting their own brand of chilli crisps in a way that would make them remembered. And that they do thanks to the well known and respected Hot Headz Logo imprinted on the front of the packet, the cool lime green of the Chipotle Mustard Chilli Chips and the fiery red burning its way across the front of the Inferno Habanero Chips.

We first tried the Hot Headz Chipotle Mustard Chilli Chips so as to really taste the flavour before compromising our tastebuds with the habanero ones. Reminiscent of Hot Headz’ bestselling Chipotle Mustard the flavour is just out of this world. Not as striking or pungent as a Dijon Mustard would be this is just like licking a spoon that has just been dipped in good quality English Mustard on your tongue before being hit by a wave of smokiness from the beloved chipotle. The heat is subtle but so pleasurable it defies logic. This is a little gem created by Hot Headz and one we didn’t think could be matched. How wrong we were.

Hot Headz Inferno Habanero Chips was approached with a more blasé attitude. Yes, our experience as chilli tasters might make us a bit more unfazed when it comes to more common habanero based products but we were soon put back in our places by these chilli crisps. Just like the Hot Headz Chipotle Mustard Chips the texture of these crisps is worthy of the best homemade brands out there. The crisps are chunky, large and most of all deliciously crunchy down to the last morsel. The great thing is that from the start you get a chance to taste the great taste of the habanero chilli pepper which spreads all around your mouth before the heat kicks in. And kicking it does. Just when you think you are on safe grounds the heat gets bigger and bigger... and bigger until you are left with an excruciating Sophie’s choice on your hands: to carry on and get burned or to be rational and leave them be knowing full well you won’t be able to wait long until the next fix? Well... which option did you think we choose every time?

So... Hot Headz have done it again. With numerous own-brand chilli condiments, chilli snacks and hot sauces that would make anybody green with envy Hot Headz’ chilli crisps are not just newcomers. We can see them lasting a long long time and God do we hope Hot Headz will soon come up with new amazing flavours of incredibly well crafted chilli crisps!

Got the Munchies?

We all have our guilty pleasures, one of the most tenacious ones being snacking on things we probably should avoid. Most people will go for crisps rather than rice crackers or chocolate instead of a banana probably because it just feels so good to be bad...

We are as guilty here at the Devil’s Garden as anyone, voicing the excuse to anybody who will listen that we just need to curb our chilli craving before gorging ourselves with fabulous chilli snacks.

When it comes to chocolate, our first pick is Dartmoor Chilli Farm’s range of chilli chocolate available in many flavours from dark to milk, orange, mint, coffee, apricot, ginger or nuts although the Chilli Pepper Company’s 72% organic dark chilli chocolate is pretty darn awesome too!

We just LOVE grabbing a bag of Dave’s Insanity Popcorn to munch in front of the telly or LapSnack Chilli Puffs. The Chilli Pepper Company’s chilli fudge is also one of our favourites, either the hot & spicy one or the ginger version.

Fired Up Chipnuts, peanuts coated in a crispy spicy shell, are definite bestsellers at the Devil’s Garden, the XXX habanero version being the most popular, closely followed by Cajun and Chipotle.

Our stock can never be big enough for our consumers of chilli nuts though. Whether you go for Hot Headz Who Dares Burns Peanuts, Hot Headz Satan’s Nuts, Dave’s Burning Nuts or Dave’s Smokin nuts, all those chilli nuts are to die for... quite literally!

Hot Headz Spicy Snacks and Condiments

Hot Headz are of course known for their great hot sauces such as Who Dares Burns 2nd Assault or Satan’s Sweat but their condiments and snacks are also great for all chilli heads out there.

Whether you are planning on hosting a fancy dinner party, just want to have something to put in your sandwich or want to smother your meat or fish on the barbecue with something flavoursome and powerful, Hot Headz has got the perfect treat in store for you like their Bramley Apple & Jalapeno Salsa, Chilli Pepper Relish, Smoked Chilli & Garlic and, one of our personal favourite: Chilli Piccalilly!

A produce you don’t see often around these neck of the woods is a Chile Con Queso sauce which Hot Headz have got down to a T. This is a traditional Mexican appetizer better described as a smooth creamy sauce made from a blend of melted cheeses, cream and chilli peppers and usually served warm. We have had it in Quesadillas and over Nachos and it was just brilliant!

More Spicy Snacks

Spicy snacks at the Devil’s Garden are really proving popular and we admit we are quite partial to them ourselves!

Our bestsellers are definitely Blair’s Death Rain range of chilli crisps which range from Cheddar to Habanero, Buffalo Wings to Parmesan & Habanero and of course Chipotle. Dave’s Smokin Nuts and Burning Nuts are also definite winners and we usually run out of stocks pretty quickly.

Personally we can’t get enough of chilli nuts. They are just so easy to carry about, they fill you up quickly and are of course yummy! Hot Headz’ Satan’s Nuts and Who Dares Burns’ Nuts are just great, as much in terms of spice as in taste!

Chilli Puffs are really good value for money. They come in a big bag and the more bites you take the more addicted you get to them. They are milder than chilli nuts, which is ideal for people who want a medium spiced chilli snack.

Dave’s Insanity Popcorn is a snack that we were really keen to get. Dave’s Insanity hot sauce is one of our bestsellers and the popcorn seems to be quickly following the same path.

For those with a sweet tooth, there are plenty of chilli chocolate goodies to choose from. Dartmoor Chilli Farm’s chocolate is just out of this world but the Chilli Pepper Company is now also producing great organic dark chocolate as well as Flaming Fireballs which as you can imagine, are not for the faint-hearted!

Our new favourite in terms of sweet chilli snack is chilli fudge. The Chilli Pepper Company has two different kinds, a Ginger one which is medium in heat and a Hot & Spicy one that is of course much hotter! Every square of chilli fudge melts in your mouth and the packet always ends up empty too quickly!

Hot Headz Nutty Nuts

Whether you like eating them between meetings at work, in your local pub alongside a nice cool pint or simply at home in front of the telly or with some friends who have just popped round, nuts are just the best.

Now when it comes to chilli nuts there are a lot of different kinds out there and let’s face it, many are just not worth bothering. We knew that Hot Headz would bring in their own twist though and create nuts not only flavoursome but also pretty darn hot (understatement of the century…)!

You just need to try Hot Headz Satan’s Nuts. If you already are a fan of Hot Headz’ Satan’s Sweat Hot Sauce then these nuts will literally blow your mind away! For those who do not know this notorious hot sauce, just imagine simple cashews transformed thanks to a devilish naga chilli mix. This is definitely not something you will find in supermarkets!

Spicy Snacks - For When You Need a Chilli Fix!

At the Devil’s Garden we have a good range of spicy snacks for those times when you just need a chilli fix.

Blair’s Death Rain Habanero crisps are just great and with a packet larger than average you really get value for money. Beware though, as these are much hotter than what you would find in an average shop! Blair’s Chipotle crisps are a bit milder but have that particular smoky taste that just makes us weak in the knees!

A lot of our customers ask us about chilli nuts. Firefoods ones are quite hot but incredibly tasty and perfect for this summer’s barbecues. Dave’s Burnin Nuts are for advanced users only as these will make a grow man cry. Dave’s Smokin BBQ Nuts are milder but absolutely cracking!

If you’re in need of chocolate, try any of the Dartmoor Farm chilli chocolates. From milk to dark, from mint and coffee to orange, their produce is superb. Their new range is also great (fruit & nut, apricot pieces and whole almonds) and we’re having a lot of success with their Dark Chocolate with Ginger Pieces.

Firefoods also produce picked onions called Fire Onions which we highly recommend… although we’ve been cursed a couple of times with these as the burn lingers for a good half hour!!
